3. Infection control measures
A. Personal infection control guidelines for staff (updated 15.5.03)
Personal Protective Apparel
These are the guidelines which we suggest for all staff directly examining the patients irrespective of the percieved risk category of the patient(i.e. category 1, 2, 3 and 4).

Procedures for putting on & removing barrier protective apparel
A. On ENTERING the area (in this order)

Put on N95 mask |

Put on Face Shield / Visors / Goggles |

Put on Cap |
| 4. |
Put on Gown |
| 5. |
Rub hands with alcoholic handrub |
| 6. |
Put on gloves |
| 7. |
Enter the area |

B. On LEAVING the area (in this order)
| 1. |
Remove gloves |
| 2. |
Remove cap |
| 3. |
Remove Face Shield / Visors / Goggles |
| 4. |
Remove gown |
| 5. |
Remove N95 mask. |
| 6. |
Rub hands with alcoholic hand rub and allow to dry (if hands soiled, must wash hands before leaving the area) |
| 7. |
Put on surgical mask for wearing whilst outside high risk area. |

(Category 3) In-patients without suspected/confirmed SARS:
This is the most difficult group in which to draw up guidelines. Ideally guidelines in category 4 above should be followed but modifications may need to be made according to resources.
